Proximity Marketing Beacons
Have you ever driven by a large retail store and received a notification on your phone?
Or have you ever downloaded an app for your favorite store and once you walk in your phone notifies you of specials or sales happening that day?
What these big box stores are using is called proximity marketing and they use beacons to get the signal out.
It’s a signal coming from a beacon or beacon software in the store that notifies you of deals, specials, or really anything you want at the moment when your close.
It may seem a little strange that these stores know your close but that is what the future of marketing looks like…..proximity marketing.
What are Proximity Marketing Beacons?
This brings us to the next section which is what the heck are beacons you may be wondering?
Well….. the type of beacons I’m referring to are a small device that broadcasts a signal to nearby smart phones.
They come in all different sizes and shapes.
Depending on what technology the beacon is using whether it’s a downloadable app or using Google nearby, depends on who sees it.
Currently Google nearby is broadcasting to Android phones with Bluetooth on and Google nearby turned on.
This is what the beacons are using to pick up the signal and broadcast it out to phones using google nearby.
iphone users can see the broadcast with certain apps downloaded.
Here is an example of what a beacon looks like:
Now the small business owner, realtor, direct seller, or just about anyone can use this beacon technology and be able to broadcast their own message out to anyone within a certain range.
This new way to market is taking off and it may make sense for you to add this to your advertising arsenal.
If your not using it, your competition just may be…..
Check out the video below for better understanding on how big name stores are using this:
As a direct seller I have been using these beacons and am seeing great results!

What are Some of the Beacon Features
There are a number of companies selling these beacons today.
It’s not so much the beacon that’s the big deal as it is the platform your beacon is using.
There are a number of key features I personally was looking for.
- I wanted to be able to change my messages myself instantly.
- I wanted to be able to send people to a link that didn’t HAVE to be https (secure link) because blogs and other sites are not always https
- I was looking for a good price
- I personally wanted an affiliate program because I knew I would be sharing these so why not earn a little extra to pay for my beacons
- Extra features like landing pages, easy social sharing, 1 click calling, and others were bonus
The company I went with was this one you can read more about the features and take a look at the 2 min video on the front page for more info.
